“America’s leadership and national security rest on our

commitment to educate and prepare our youth for active

engagement in the international community. I call on

schools, teachers, students, parents, and community leaders

to promote understanding of our nations and cultures by

encouraging our young people to participate in activities

that increase their knowledge of and appreciation for global

issues, languages, history, geography, literature, and the

arts of other countries.” President George W. Bush

AATG National German Exam for High School Students

The AATG National German Exam for High School Students is given every year in December or January for German levels II, III, and IV. It consists of 100 multiple choice questions and test skills such as listening, grammar, and reading. For each level of German, there are two categories: 1.) native and 2.) non-native speaker

·        Over 10,340 students took the test nationally

·        The first time a national exam of a modern foreign language has been administered in the history of the Spalding County School System.

·        Funded by a PIE Grant (Awarded in the Fall of 2006)

·        Funding for future years will be provided by Foreign Language Dept. Funds.

·        40 Students took the exam in Spalding County.  10 at Spalding High School and 30 at Griffin High School.

I view this test as a great beginning for our program here in Spalding County.  I know that having now had the experience of giving the test once, I have a better idea of what the test is about and how to better prepare my students for it in the coming years.
