quadrant of the DSD (Deutschessprachdiplom - German Language Diploma) test, have language ability deemed high enough to study
at German Universities for no cost!

Georgia lies in a central location
to the three largest German Carmakers facitilites in Tennessee, South Carolina, Alabama and Porsche will soon be breaking
ground on their new North American Headquarters in Atlanta. Germany is the fourth largest economy in the world and the
2nd largest exporter and an important trading partner with the State of Georgia. The Georgia Department of Economic
Development maintains an office in Munich Germany. In 2010, Germany had the world's fastest growing manufacturing sector,
eclipsing even China! Germany is actively seeking international employees proficient in German to fill jobs in all segments
of it's economy. The German consulate of Georgia is located in Atlanta and additionally, the German American Chamber
of Commerce and the Goethe Center in Atlanta work directly with German businesses wishing to relocate to Georgia.

Program
Overview
The Goergia Internation Workforce Development Initiative is a program being developed in partnership with
the Technical College System of Georgia, the University System of Georgia and the Georgia Department of Education. The
purpose of the initiative is to provide international, career-focused learning opportunities for students from elemenentary
school through higher education in Georgia. The initiative is made up of three primary components.
1) To provide students in Georgia with meaningful career-based experiences
working for international companies as well as promote the learning of world languages and cultures. Georgia has signed
Memoranda of Understanding with states in Germany and other countries to allow for the opportunity for Georgia students to
take part in international career based exchanges and job shadowing experiences abroad. Georgia Students taking part
in these exchanges will possess skills deemed vital by multi-national corporations, defense industries, and military partners
throughout the State of Georgia, and will support the economic development and innovation in diverse regions throughout the
state.
2) Georgia Language Academy: Funding has been
made available for students to receive scholarships to study at the North Georgia College and State University. These
scholarships will ensure that all Georgia students have an opportunity to study the languages and cultures that will be vital
for future economic growth and national security.
3) Georgia
Dual - Immersion Program: To ensure a Georgia workforce fluent in languages and adept at cultural interactions deemed
vital to national security by the U.S. Department of Defense and to economic national and state economic development by businesses
in Georgia, the Georgia Department of Education will oversee a pilot program of six elementary school dualimmersion programs.
The focus of these programs will be to support the acquisition of skills in foreign langauges in order for students to successfully
compete in the international arena.
